April 13 & 14, 2019 found the campus of USC in Los Angeles the site of the 2019 LA Times Festival of Books. Life in the Neck New Friends and Jeannie Ann’s Grandma Has Breast Cancer were both there in the Reader’s Magnet Booth. On Saturday afternoon, I was also featured in the booth from 2:30 to 3:30 with a Book Signing of both books. I met 100’s of people, passed out hundreds of bookmarks and signed a number of books. It is always gratifying and heartwarming to see the smile spread across the face of the young reader as you hand then their autographed copy of the book. Parents are a pleasure to visit with as well.
The festival has over1000 booths selling millions of books and everything else that a reader/writer might need or want. Food trucks, games and activities, writing materials, reading related t-shirts with great sayings, lemonade in shades of yellow, pink, and blue with fruit or without for anywhere from $6 to $8 and lots and lots of people in every size, shape and color. What a learning experience it turned out to be!
